Your safety comes first

Meeting someone online can be an exciting experience, but online communication also requires awareness and good judgment.

Vynme encourages every member to take reasonable steps to protect themselves and others.

The following guidelines are designed to help you use the platform more safely.

Protect your personal information

Avoid sharing sensitive information with people you have only recently met online.

This can include:

  • Home address
  • Personal identification documents
  • Bank account information
  • Credit card information
  • Passwords
  • Security codes
  • Private financial information

Remember that you don’t have to answer a personal question simply because someone asks.

Be careful with money

One of the most important rules of online dating is:

Never send money to someone you have met online simply because they ask.

Be particularly cautious if someone:

  • claims to have an emergency;
  • asks you to pay for travel;
  • asks for financial assistance;
  • requests cryptocurrency or gift cards;
  • asks for banking information;
  • promises to repay you later;
  • pressures you to keep the transaction secret.

Romantic interest should never be used as a reason to send money.

Take your time

Don’t feel pressured to move a conversation faster than you are comfortable with.

A person who respects you will respect your boundaries.

Take time to learn about someone before deciding whether you want to meet them offline.

Watch for suspicious behaviour

Be cautious if someone:

  • refuses to communicate normally;
  • gives contradictory information about themselves;
  • immediately declares intense romantic feelings;
  • pressures you to move the conversation elsewhere;
  • repeatedly asks for money;
  • asks for sensitive information;
  • tries to isolate you from friends or family;
  • makes you uncomfortable.

One suspicious behaviour does not necessarily prove that someone is fraudulent, but several warning signs should be taken seriously.

Meeting someone in person

If you decide to meet someone you first met online:

Choose a public place

Meet somewhere busy and familiar.

Tell someone you trust

Let a friend or family member know where you are going and who you are meeting.

Arrange your own transportation

Whenever possible, travel to and from the meeting independently.

Keep your phone available

Make sure you can contact someone if you need help.

Trust your instincts

If something feels wrong, you can leave.

You never owe someone an in-person meeting simply because you have been talking online.

Reporting inappropriate behaviour

If another user behaves inappropriately, threatens you, attempts to scam you or violates the Vynme Community Guidelines, use the reporting functionality available on the platform or contact Vynme support.

When reporting an issue, provide as much relevant information as possible.

Do not put yourself at risk to collect evidence.

If you feel unsafe

If you believe you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or the appropriate authorities.

Vynme is not a substitute for emergency services.

Remember

Take your time.

Protect your information.

Never send money to someone you don’t know and trust.

Meet safely.

Respect your boundaries.

Report suspicious behaviour.
